There is no sweeter feeling than achieving a goal. Whether it’s accomplishing 10,000 daily steps on a Fitbit or being hired for a dream job that required years of schooling and sacrifices, the feeling of accomplishment is priceless. However, while we should take pride in ourselves for enduring the hard-work to achieve those goals - whether we’d like to admit it or not - the truth is that we didn’t make it there alone, we had the help of people who inspired us and pushed us to be the best that we could be. These are our mentors.
Mentors can range from family, friends or people we may not even know. Regardless, we should strive to create a relationship with those we aspire to be like and be open-minded to their wisdom. As Lean InFounder and Facebook CEO, Sheryl Sandberg, once said, “Asking for input is not a sign of weakness but often the first step to finding a path forward.”
Alone we can only achieve so much, but with the support and wisdom of others, we can grow to be stronger than ever before. I urge you to find your mentor(s), whether you know them or not, find someone you aspire to be like and whose story and journey will help pave your own for the better.
