Having a mentor early in your career is a very important resource to have. Your mentor should be a person that you trust and can turn to for guidance. As you advance in your career, it is almost certain that you will meet new individuals that will qualify as new mentors. However, in order to meet the right people, you will need to network with a purpose.
Networking with a purpose means that you know exactly who you are and what you can offer someone else. You will never meet the right people if you attend a networking event with the mind set that you want to be the person walking out with the most business cards. In order to meet the right people and make meaningful connections, you will need to be genuine and offer the other person your services without expecting something in return. This is what great mentors do.
